Dr. Stephen Hanson

Physical Therapist
DPT, PT

I was born and raised in Bowie, TX, and have been working in physical therapy since 1998. My journey started as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the U.S. Air Force, and after six years, I transitioned to the Army, where I served as a physical therapist for 14 years. I retired from the Army in 2018 and continued working in civilian clinics as both a staff physical therapist and clinic director.

I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree in 2007 and became a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) in 2012. My certification lasted for 10 years before timing out in 2022. I also completed training in Dry Needling in 2011. With years of experience in both military and civilian settings, I’m passionate about helping people recover, move better, and get back to doing what they love.

Core Values:

I seek to reflect Jesus. His love, truth, and honesty in all that I do.

As a physical therapist, I provide hands-on treatment and personalized rehabilitation plans to help patients recover from injuries, manage pain, and improve mobility. With my background in both military and civilian settings, I bring a unique perspective to patient care, focusing on functional movement and long-term recovery. I also contribute my experience in clinic leadership, mentoring, and guiding both patients and staff toward the best possible outcomes.

Conditions I enjoy treating range from a wide variety of orthopedic and neurological conditions, but I have a particular interest in post-surgical rehabilitation, chronic pain management, and movement dysfunctions. Given my extensive experience in the military, I also specialize in working with veterans and active-duty personnel dealing with musculoskeletal injuries, overuse conditions, and performance-based rehabilitation. Dry needling is one of my go-to techniques for addressing pain and muscle tension.

I appreciate the opportunity that Foundation Therapy gives me to work in a setting that prioritizes patient-centered care. It’s rewarding to be part of a team that values hands-on treatment, individualized therapy, and long-term patient success. Being able to use my experience to help patients regain function and confidence is what keeps me passionate about this work every day.

When I’m not working:

I enjoy staying active and challenging myself through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It’s a great way to stay sharp both physically and mentally. I also love spending time outdoors, whether it’s hunting or just appreciating nature. Most importantly, I cherish time with my wife, whether we’re enjoying a quiet evening together or heading out on new adventures.

Chris, Kelli, Stephen and Kaitlyn all worked well together and got me back to where I could do all of the things that I needed to do after my total hip replacement. They are great people and will get you through it. Thank you guys.

I can’t thank everyone at Foundation Therapy enough for the rehab program they put me through after total knee replacement. Kelli, Steve, Chris and Kaetlyn, and the ladies at the front desk, created a very family-like atmosphere that definitely helped in my successful completion of the program they put me through. Good folks and I look forward to working with them again after getting the other knee replaced in November.

I so enjoyed all my visits at Foundation Therapy. Each and everyone is friendly, caring and you just get a homey environment. They truly care about you and the rehab you are going through. THIS IS A 5 STAR REHAB !!
